The St. Kitts and Nevis National Dinghy Championships 2026 concluded on 5 July at the Anchorage, Frigate Bay. The tournament was a two day event which was held on Saturday July, 4 to 5 2026. The championship was hosted by the St. Kitts Yacht Club in collaboration with the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee.
The tournament was sanctioned by the St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association. In the championship a total of 13 sailors participated and represented the St. Kitts Yacht Club and the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Centre. The sailors competed in 12 races in four different categories including, the Optimist, RS Feva, ILCA4.7 and ILCA 7 classes.
The St. Kitts Yacht Club shared that hosting the premier dinghy sailing event played an important role in development of the sailing sector in the federation. The organization further explained that it also helps in helping the local athletes qualify for regatta regional and international competitions.
Moreover, the two days event was hosted under the leadership of Nicholas Dupre, Principal Race Officer. This year champions of the National Dinghy Championships 2026 were:
Optimist Class
1st place: Greyson Burell
2nd place: Clijae Christmas-Mulley
3rd place: Emijah Maynard
RS Feva Class
1st place: Emily Samaroo
2nd place: Donovan Liburd
ILCA 4.7 Class
1st place: Owen Maheish
2nd Place: Rodney Huggins
3rd place: Elijah Walters
ILCA 7 Class
1st place: Merloy Henry
2nd Place: Amandi Byron-Hendrickson
Additionally, Greyson Burrell made a milestone successfully defending his Optimist National title and Melroy Henry won his second consecutive National ILCA title.
The St. Kitts Yacht Club mentioned that the championship reflects the growth of sailing in the federation and appreciated the participants’ performance in the National Dinghy Championships 2026. They said, “The championship once again showcased the continued growth of sailing in St. Kitts and Nevis with competitors demonstrating resilience, determination and outstanding sportsmanship throughout the weekend”.
The organization also expressed gratitude to the event’s sponsors, including Nevis Aquatic Sailing Centre and the St. Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association. The St. Kitts Yacht Club special thanks to the Budget Marine as they sponsor the championship medals.
