SCASPA Investigating Cause of MV Apple Syder Emergency at Sea

SCASPA has confirmed that they have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident involving MV Apple Syder.

St Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) has confirmed that they have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident involving MV Apple Syder. The vehicle, carrying 41 passengers and 6 members of the crew, experienced some issues at sea. 

The officials have shared that in the aftermath of the incident SCASPA has provided the necessary assistance. They have also shared that the organisation has secured the vessel at the Ferry Terminal in Basseterre. 

The officials have shared that the safety of the people of the  country is a priority for them. The Ministry of Health, National Security et al has also been involved in the investigation and evaluation of the aftermath of the incident. 

Notably, SCASPA have partnered with several other agencies to conduct investigations into the matter. The organisation also has the support of Prime Minister who has kept apprised of all the developments which have taken place in relation to this incident

The St. Christopher Air & Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) has also extended their sincere gratitude to all agencies that responded swiftly and professionally. To name a few, the agencies involved in the rescue operation were:

  • The Coast Guard Unit of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force
  • The St. Kitts and Nevis Fire & Rescue Services, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force 
  • Specialized units of the RSCNPF
  • The Department of Maritime Affairs 
  • The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) 
  • The Ministries of National Security, Health, and Social Development. 

The Ministries also lent the services of  the counsellor who provided on-site support. The crew of the Makana Ferry has extended their supported the people of the island their prompt response and assistance.

We also thank the tug operators and all other responders whose coordinated efforts ensured that all 47 persons on board, 41 passengers and six crew members were safely accounted for.

SCASPA remains committed to supporting the ongoing investigation and will provide further updates as information becomes available
