The Prime Minister Terrance Drew has announced that the JNF General Hospital has  been fully air conditioned as a part of a number of upgrades that the hospital has been through. The Minister of Health, Dr Terrance Drew, who is also the Prime Minister of the country, visited the JNF General Hospital during the previous week. During this visit, Dr Drew visited all the wards and departments across the hospital. 

He made the announcement during his Roundtable Press Conference on June 25, 2026 while he was speaking about the developments in the healthcare sector. According to Dr Terrance Drew the air conditioners have been installed in the oncology unit, the Pediatrics Ward, the Out-Patient Unit, Obstetrics & Gynecology Ward.

Air conditioning has also been added to some parts of the Psychiatry Ward of the hospital. He added that the people of the island have also been struggling with the effects of climate change. 

The air conditioning of the hospital is part of the Ministry of Health’s efforts to improve services at the Primary Healthcare institution in St Kitts. Dr Drew said, The increasing effects of climate change come with predictions of higher temperatures. 

The Ministry took the decision to ensure the comfort of patients, nurses, doctors, and all persons who work on the compound. The Hospital has also undergone more upgrades in addition to the air conditioning.

Talking to the media, the Prime Minister also highlighted the other details of the hospital upgrades. Dr Drew said he recently visited the hospital and the nurses, patients, doctors, and auxiliary staff are extremely happy with the improvements.

He disclosed that the Private Ward, which was being refurbished in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic and will be reopened within six weeks. Dr. Drew noted that when the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party assumed office in August 2022, at one point only one ambulance was in service.

He said a decision was taken to immediately prioritize and channel the necessary financial resources to refurbish some ambulances and also purchase a fleet of modern ambulances to ensure the people had the health care services.

He said substantial financial resources have also been used to stop the roof from leaking.
