Jonathan Essien Breaks Personal Record in Commonwealth Games Debut 

Jonathan Essien made a new personal record and surpassed his own best performance in the 100m Butterfly event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday 25 July. The St. Kitts Nevis Aquatics Federation shared the update regarding the performance of Essien during the event on their official social media handle. The organization stated that his achievement in the first event reflected his diligence and devotion towards his personal career.

The SKNAF said, “Setting a personal best on the Commonwealth Games stages is a tremendous achievement and a testament to Jonathan’s hard work, dedication and commitment to the sport”.

The organization further commended Essien for his achievement in the event and mentioned that the entire nation and SKNAF felt proud of him. The SKNAF stated, “Congratulations, Jonathan! We are incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to cheer you on in your next event”.

Additionally, Essien will be representing the St. Kitts and Nevis in the 50m Butterfly event. The SKNAF also shared that Skyla Connor, one of the finest swimmers from the federation will compete in her first event in the tournament on Monday.

Moreover, both Essien and Connor’s last event of the tournament is scheduled to take place on Tuesday July 28, 2026 .5s

Notably, two more players from the federation are representing St. Kitts and Nevis at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in the Track & Field games. Alexander Caines and Shamarie Newton will be participating in the 800m and 100m event.

Newton’s 100m event heat is taking place tomorrow morning ( July 28) and semi-finals of the event will take place on July 28 in the evening and finals will be held the same day at approx 8:14 PM BST at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow.

Caine’s 800m event round 1 is scheduled to take place on Tuesday July 28 and semi-finals will be held on July 30 and finals on Saturday August 1, 2026 at Scotstoun Stadium.
