Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew is travelling to Saint Lucia and Dominica for two important regional meetings during the upcoming week. Dr Drew will be present in Saint Lucia for the 51st Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government. The officials have shared that the meeting is being hosted in Castries with several CARICOM heads of the government.
Dr Drew is the outgoing Chairperson of the Caribbean Community whose tenure ended on June 30. The 51st Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of State will serve as the platform for the official transition of power. Dr Terrance Drew, the outgoing Chairperson of the CARICOM will be handing over the office of the Chairperson to his successor, Prime Minister Phillip J Pierre
The leaders from across the Caribbean region will come together to hold serious and productive discussions on areas of cooperation. The discussions will center around economic development, food security, climate resilience, regional security, regional integration and trade.
The leaders have shared that the discussions are crucial for the growth of the region in all the sectors. The officials have shared that the meetings will help leaders understand the priorities that the Caribbean region has to strive towards as a unit.
The 51st Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of State will be hosted for a period of four days starting, July 5 to July 8, 2026.
After the conclusion of the CARICOM Summit, the Prime Minister will travel to Dominica on July 9. In Dominica, he will participate in the 113th Meeting of the Monetary Council of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB).
The Financial Secretary of St Kitts and Nevis, Carlton Pogson will also join Prime Minister Drew at the meeting. Dr Terrance Drew will represent St Kitts and Nevis in his capacity as the Minister of Finance at the 113th Meeting of the Monetary Council.
The government of St Kitts and Nevis is dedicated to making sure that the nation is represented well in the regional event. The officials have further shared that the country wants to consistently remain involved in the regional decision-making.
The nation partnering with the rest of the region aims to advance economic resilience, sustainable development, and greater opportunities.
