Cultural Heritage Department Announces 2026 ICH Knowledge Transfer Camp 

The Department of Cultural Heritage has announced the dates of the Intangible Cultural Heritage  ICH Core Knowledge Transfer Camp. This year the camp will take place from Monday July 27 to Friday 31, 2026 at the St. Johnson’s Community Centre, Basseterre. 

The theme of the camp is “Learn, Create, Keep Our Culture Alive”.

In the announcement, the Department urged the parents to register their children for the camp before the deadline. The officials have shared that the registration fees for the camp is $45 and the camp is especially designed for 8 to 16 years. According to the details shared by the department, the registration for the camp is available till tomorrow Thursday July 23, 2026.

The Department further explained that for registration, interested individuals have to visit the Department in person and fill out the form. The parents  can contact the number 467-1916 for any queries regarding the registration process or the camp. The department office is located0 at Victoria Road near the Leonie James preschool. The camp will run for the 4 days and start from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm daily. Lunch will be provided to the children daily as a part of the camp.

The Department stated that this year the focus of the camp is: Folklore Traditions Accessories as these elements help in making the children stay connected with the island’s roots through interactive activities. During the camp participants will learn how to make Masquerade, Bull Horn, Gubby Mask  and Mummies Head pieces and Mocko Jumble Stilts.

Additionally, in the camp children will engage in several interactive activities including classroom presentations, cultural discussions, demonstrations, practical workshops, and performance sessions. The Department also shared that each day in the camp is designated to one folklore tradition in which participants will learn and take part in practical sessions under the guidance of experienced cultural practitioners.

Notably, the camp is being hosted under the Ministry of Creative Economy, employment and culture led by Samal Duggins.
