31st Agriculture Open Day & Marine Expo Opens with Strong Turnout in St. Kitts and Nevis
The 31st edition of the Agriculture Open Day & Marine Expo officially got underway for two days starting on Thursday April 30. The event started with an opening ceremony at the Royal Basseterre Valley National Park.
The 31st edition of the Agriculture Open Day & Marine Expo is being held under the theme: “Cultivating Our Future with Innovative Technology on Land and Sea.” It is a major milestone for the country and especially with their agriculture sector.
The even not only highlights the historical success of the country in producing their own food but also gives hope to the country that they can reach food security.
Experts and organizers suggest that the event saw a strong, drawing a strong turnout from nationals of the country on the opening day. Day 1 was able to set an energetic tone for the next day of the event.
The two-day expo showcases the very best of St Kitts and Nevis’ agriculture and marine sectors and the attendants had access to a diverse range of agro-products and services.
The people who visited the Basseterre Valley National Park were able to engage directly with farmers, fisherfolk, and food producers. It was an opportunity for the people to purchase fresh, locally grown produce, and enjoy a variety of dishes prepared from homegrown and freshly caught ingredients.
The people of the country were also able to experience several crowd-favorite activities such as the popular watermelon eating competition. The 31st edition of the Agriculture Open Day & Marine Expo also had people enjoying cultural performances.
The people enjoyed activities like horseback riding, and live performances, all contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the celebrations.
The success of the agricultural sector of the country would contribute significantly to the growth of food security and independence on the island.
For more than three decades, the programme has helped local producers and fisherfolk find buyers within the island and sell their products directly to the people of the island
