St. Kitts and Nevis completed its first ever locally manufactured 1,000-gallon water storage tank on Sunday. This has been made possible through Sun Island Clothes Limited.

Sun Island Clothes Limited is an organisation that has been engaged in textile production and bottling operations for a decade. But with the launch of “Sun Tank” along with commencement of gutter production, the organization has stepped into supporting the  island’s administration into its vision of national resilience, economic diversification and climate adaptation.

Mahesh Nariani, the Director of the Sun Island Clothes Limited shared that the tank production is already underway and the organisation is on the way to shape the administration concept into execution.

He stated that the launch of the “Sun Tank” positioned the twin islands to produce water storage infrastructure domestically for the first time in the island’s history. Also, it enhanced the twin island’s industrial capacity.

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew shared this development through a Facebook post, which mentioned “Today, I am proud to announce that the first water tank ever manufactured in our Federation is now complete. This represents a significant national milestone. This facility will not only support our domestic needs but will also export to neighboring countries, contributing to improved water access across the region.

The Prime Minister also shared that he will visit the facility this Wednesday at the Cayon Industrial Zone. He stated that water access has been a challenge for residents over the years.

To tackle the problem, the current administration has adopted several measures including drilled wells, upgraded pipelines, constructed new storage tanks in Cayon and invested $60 million in a two million gallon desalination plant in Basseterre.

Moreover, to strengthen long term capacity a water tank manufacturing facility in the Cayon Industrial Zone has been established. The initiative is expected to help reduce the reliance on imports.

Additionally, PM Drew said this initiative not only helps in meeting the local demand but also solve water shortage in neighbouring Caribbean regions which positions St. Kitts and Nevis in generating foreign exchange earnings and opening the pathway to enter regional water infrastructure markets.
