St. Kitts and Nevis’ one of the most iconic boxing players, Terrance Ruben passed away on Sunday evening, April 19. His death has left the citizens and sports lovers mourning.
The towering figure and the nation’s first internationally recognized boxer, was a trailblazer who put the country on the global boxing map. He was a nine-year national Welterweight Champion from 1974–1983 and won the Caribbean Championship in 1978.
He had a professional career of over a 27-year from 1972–1999. During his boxing career he competed in 77 fights, securing 65 victories.
The SOL Island Auto Conaree Football Club, a Saint Kitts and Nevis Premier Division team based in Conaree, Saint Kitts, has expressed its heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. The Club shared a note on its official Facebook page and wrote, “Condolences to the loved ones of a true Conaree stalwart and legend. Rest easy, Fighting Hunks.”
Apart from being a famous boxer, “Fighting Hunks” was a trailblazer, a patriot, and a symbol of courage whose fists carried the pride and identity of St. Kitts and Nevis onto the international stage.
It is also worth noting that after retiring from active competition, “Fighting Hunks” invested his time and knowledge into nurturing future generations of boxers, helping to shape national athletes who would go on to achieve success regionally.
