
Dr Terrance Drew visited the University of Ghana as a part of his commitment to providing educational opportunities for the people of St Kitts and Nevis. He was part of an engagement with the leadership of the university of Ghana.
He shared that the visit was aimed towards improving the academic cooperation between the Caribbean and Africa. The administration has shared that it is important for the two regions to make sure that they continue to work on improving their connection.
The meeting within the University of Ghana will be instrumental to make sure that the people to people connections between the two nations can be improved. The meeting was hosted on Wednesday and brought together crucial stakeholders from the University.
The Prime Minister said that he was joined by Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo and members of her team. The Ghanaian Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and Minister of Honour, Abla Dzifa Gomashie was also present.
The discussions which were touched upon during this meeting included the development of the collaboration in higher education, research, cultural studies, and youth exchange. This follows the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Education in Saint Kitts and Nevis and the University of Ghana.
The leaders have shared that the people of St Kitts and Nevis will be able to travel to Ghana for their tertiary education. Dr Terrance Drew highlighted the importance of education as a cornerstone of national development.
He also said that the cooperation and collaboration between St Kitts and Nevis and Ghana will have tremendous potential. The people of St Kitts and Nevis have for long valued education significantly. The leadership has shared that education has always remained important for the people of St Kitts and Nevis.
He added that for them, as a nation, their biggest resource has been their people, their intellect, creativity and determination to build a better future. Dr Drew has shared that the MoU represents a meaningful step toward deepening the longstanding historical and cultural connections.
The MoU will lead to opportunities for students and researchers from the two nations to collaborate and learn from one another.
