The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Neis, Dr Terrance Drew was invited to be part of the 69th Independence Day Celebration which was organized on March 6, 2026. Dr Drew was on a four day trip to Ghana when he was invited to be a special guest for the celebration.
The celebration was brought together for the people of St Kitts and Nevis and Ghana. The delegation which was accompanying the Prime Minister to his four day state visit also attended the event.
The attendants included government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, military representatives, students, and citizens from across Ghana. The nation gained their independence from British rule in 1957. The celebration of the independence was also the celebration of the nation’s progress in the last seven decades.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis attending the event was proof of the better diplomatic ties between St Kitts and Nevis and Ghana.
The leaders have shared that the celebration started with a ceremonial parade and an official programme. The officials have shared that the members of the community will be given to the people of the island.
The officials have shared that the celebration programme had several patriotic and cultural displays. The officials saw the prayers from traditional, Muslim, and Christian leaders, musical performances, poetry recitals, and cultural presentations by school children
The event also featured the inspection of the parade. Afterwards, the lighting of the perpetual flame before the President of Ghana was also done.
In addition to Dr Terrance Drew and his delegation attending the independence day celebration, another prominent honor was bestowed on St Kitts and Nevis. The flag of St Kitts and Nevis was flying at the Jubilee House during the Independence celebrations.
This gesture is being considered deeply symbolic as the Prime Minister was also present during the event.
Dr Terrance Drew said that this is a very meaningful day for the two nations and serves as a reminder of the enduring connection between the Caribbean and Africa.
