St. Kitts and Nevis set to introduce biometric collection for Citizenship Applicants
St. Kitts and Nevis: The Citizenship Investment Unit of St. Kitts and Nevis has announced that mandatory biometric data collection for new and existing citizens through the Citizenship Programme will be introduced before the end of the first quarter of 2026.
The Citizenship Unit confirmed that the initiative is designed to strengthen international security compliance and align the Federation with global best practices.
Under the new changes, biometric collection will be compulsory for all new applicants entering the programme. In addition, individuals who previously acquired citizenship through the programme will also be required to comply within an extended transition period, allowing for a smooth and orderly implementation.
Executive Chairman of the Citizenship Unit, Calvin St. Juste, said the measure reflects the country’s commitment to safeguarding the programme’s integrity and maintaining its standing in the international community.
“By implementing these enhanced security measures, we are ensuring that we meet the highest international standards while contributing meaningfully to global border security efforts,” he stated.
Authorities clarified that the biometric requirement will apply exclusively to those who gained citizenship through the programme and will not affect native-born citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis. Further details regarding timelines and procedures for existing citizens are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
According to the Citizenship Unit, the initiative will ensure that travel documents issued by the Federation incorporate biometric identifiers consistent with international civil aviation and security protocols, reinforcing confidence among global partners.
Officials added that the move underscores St. Kitts and Nevis’ proactive response to evolving security challenges and its determination to preserve the prestige and global acceptance of its Citizenship Programme.
The Citizenship Unit also assured applicants and existing citizens that comprehensive guidance and support will be provided throughout the rollout of the new biometric system.
