The St. Kitts and Nevis Technical and Vocational Education Training Council (SKNTVETC) is currently hosting a two-day meeting for the Caribbean Association of National Training Authorities (CANTA) at the Royal St. Kitts Conference Room. The meeting which started on Tuesday November 26, was preceded by an Opening Ceremony.

Extending a warm welcome to the delegates, Minister of Education Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley remarked on the importance of TVET to capacity building, “In a world defined by rapid technological advances, globalization and the need for sustainable development, the connection between education, skills training and employment has never been more critical. Our ability to adapt to the changing landscape depends on our commitment to empowering individuals with the skills they need to thrive in the workforce while promoting lifelong learning. Our twin island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has its mandate to create a more innovative, inclusive and sustainable country. This mandate can only be realized if we have a skilled labour force to help build our sustainable island state. Therefore, Technical and Vocational Education Training is a critical component and is integral to the realization of our goal.”

Highlighting the benefits of TVET to regional development, Minister Hanley commended CANTA on the work already done and encouraged them to continue in the work they are doing.

The discourse on the way forward for TVET in the region will close on Wednesday November 27.
