PM Terrance Drew wraps up budget 2026 debate, highlights crucial investments in water security
The Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew delivered the wrap up address for the 2026 National Budget in the national assembly of St Kitts and Nevis. The budget debate, which started with the Prime Minister’s address on December 16, 2025. He delivered his wrap up address on the final day of the budget debate on Friday, December 19.
During the wrap up address, the Prime Minister addressed the points raised by the members of the opposition in response to the Prime Minister’s address. The Prime Minister addressed the deficit in the national budget of the country. According to the Prime Minister, when they took office in 2022, they had inherited a deficit from the previous administration.
He also shared the figures of the spending which the Terrance Drew administration had made in the development of the infrastructure in the country. He shared that they invested a sum of EC $50 Million Dollars for the development of the Desalination plant at the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Park
The Prime Minister confirmed that the desalination plant will deliver 24/7 water to 70% households in the country. He also confirmed that the people of Cayon also have access to safe potable water.
He also noted that they have also found more sites of ground water in different parts of the country. This allows 100 percent homes on the island to get access to water 24/7. The Prime Minister shared that the members of the community had been struggling with water shortages and in light of this, the investment was very important to be made
The Prime Minister also shared that the administration has also made several investments in the healthcare sector. The Prime Minister has shared that his office has supported the people of the island welcoming the parents from across the communities whose children need support in financing lifesaving treatment.
The Children’s Medical fund, according to Dr Drew has helped many parents and children access lifesaving medicine. It was one of the first major steps which the Prime Minister took with respect to enhancing healthcare in the country, upon taking office.
