The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew has addressed the cost concerns which have been raised by many people in the country in relation with the frequent travels that he embarks on, as part of the outreach initiative with the rest of the region.

While speaking to the members of the media on February 17, he said that he will be visiting Bahamas, Guyana, Suriname and Jamaica.

The Prime Minister also took the time to address that the travel is in no way luxury for him as this is, according to him, the need of the hour today. He also set the record straight during the Roundtable conference on the fact that he is travelling through the RSS aircraft which is already funded by the leaders of the CARICOM.

Anticipating the argument that the leaders can engage in meetings via zoom, Dr Drew rejected the idea. He said this is not the time for Zoom meetings and virtual talks. He said this was the time for the leaders of the CARICOM to engage in face to face discussions.

Dr Drew noted that this was a very delicate time for the world and it would be better for the leaders to sit together in a room and discuss matters face to face.

The Prime Minister said that he is engaging in these meetings with the regional leaders and CARICOM Heads ahead of the 50th General Meeting of the CARICOM heads of Governments. The meeting is being held in Basseterre from February 24 to February 27, 2026 and will be attended by several of the leaders from the CARICOM.

Dr Drew has claimed that these meetings are being done with the aim of putting the best foot forward as a region with respect to the crises that the world is facing,

The event will be attended by most of the leaders of the Caribbean nations. The leaders are seeming very committed to attending and interacting with other leaders during the leaders meeting in Basseterre next week.

At least 95% of the leaders have expressed that they want to attend the meeting in Basseterre.

Ahead of the 50th meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government, Dr Terrance Drew will also be meeting with the Prime Ministers and Heads of States of Bahamas, Jamaica, Guyana and Suriname. These visits to the Caribbean nations will be towards the Prime Minister’s outreach initiative which took Dr Drew to Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, Grenada and some other nations in the last five weeks.
