Panama’s Ambassador Presents Credentials to Dy PM Geoffrey Hanley and Governor General Liburd
The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis continues to strengthen its diplomatic relations with the nation of Panama, as Ambassador Xiomara Perez gets officially accredited to the Federation.
On March 25, 2026, Xiomara Perez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Panama, presented her letters of credence to the Governor-General, Dame Marcella Liburd, marking an official start to her diplomatic duties in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Ambassador Xiomara Perez was warmly welcomed by Governor-General Liburd, who received her credentials during a credentialing ceremony hosted at the Government House.
During the ceremony, the Governor-General shared that she looks forward to strengthening the cooperation between St. Kitts and Nevis and Panama. She highlighted a few areas of where the two countries can collaborate and expand opportunities for their citizens.
The Panamanian Ambassador also reaffirmed her commitment to assisting the Federation and pledged to continue strengthening the St. Kitts-Panama relationship.
Moreover, Ambassador Perez was seen making a courtesy call to the Acting Prime Minister, Geoffrey Hanley, after the credentialing ceremony and her meeting with Governor Liburd.
Geoffrey Hanley welcomed her, and the two talked about potential opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation. Geoffrey Hanley, the acting prime minister, expressed that the visit offered a chance for “constructive dialogue”, underscoring its importance.
On her Facebook page, the Governor-General talked about her meeting with the Ambassador. She mentioned the two nations’ long-standing relationship and said that St. Kitts’ acceptance of Ambassador Perez’s credential will solidify those enduring ties.
In her post, she wrote, “St Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of Panama established diplomatic relations in 1992. This presentation of credentials signals our intention to strengthen our relations particularly in the context of Caribbean-Latin American cooperation.”
Ambassador Xiomara Perez is currently based in Barbados and is also the first resident Ambassador to Barbados.
