The Basseterre High School construction project has received a major update from the Ministry of Education. In a recent update shared on the government platforms, the administration has confirmed that the construction activity is currently ongoing.

The authorities have confirmed that the first shipment of equipment is now departing Barbados to reach the project site. The Basseterre High School is being constructed at the historic Victoria Road as an honor to the longstanding history associated with the school. The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis took to his social media to share an update.

He said that this is a major development for the education sector of the country. He further added that the people of the island will also be delighted with the restoration of the historical educational site of the country.

He has shared that the school has held a special place in the history of the nation and has been significant for the education sector of St Kitts and Nevis. The school has given the nation several teachers, doctors, public servants, businessmen and national leaders.

The alumni of the BHS have represented the country in the regional as well as international stages. The people of the island have been looking forward to progress on the construction of the school.

The new updates shared by the administration, Dr Drew and his team, suggest that the work is progressing at a satisfying pace. The development had been stalled for several years after the demolition of the original structure and delays in reconstruction.

The Prime Minister further explained that the project had been facing setbacks during the period of 2015 and 2022. The people of the island were looking forward to the construction project, but they were disappointed when the work did not start.

The administration has since reset the project when they took office in 2022. They also promised that the new Basseterre High School will be built at its historic location on Victoria Road in Basseterre.

The construction process has since undergone several stages. The demolition of the remaining structures at the former school site in December 2023. In 2024, the authorities did the site mapping and conceptual design work. The construction activities had begun in 2025 June, marking the beginning of the physical aspects of the development phase.

The authorities have shared that the school is being constructed using a precast concrete system. In this system, the structural components are manufactured on site and shipped to the construction site for installation.

In the meantime the site will be readied for the installation of the components. The work is currently ongoing at the Victoria road site. The officials have shared that the precast concrete system  will help make sure that the work can be finished at the earliest.
