Dr Denzil Douglas meets EU Ambassador for Courtesy Call

The Minister of Foreign Affairs St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas met with the Ambassador of the European Union to St Kitts and Nevis, Fiona Ramsey for a courtesy call. The ambassador met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs on January 14, 2026.

The Ambassador presented her credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday as a prelude to the beginning of her duties as representative of the European Union to the federation. During this courtesy call, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassador of the European Union engaged in speaking on several important issues.

The two leaders discussed ways of growing the collaboration between the two organizations as they work together for the growth of the island nation. The European Union has been an important diplomatic ally for the twin island federation. The officials have confirmed that they will continue to collaborate on areas of development in education, infrastructure, healthcare and more.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs gave Ambassador Ramsey a warm welcome as she looks to begin her duties as a representative of the EU. Dr Douglas asserted that the European Union enjoys a longstanding and mutually beneficial

relationship with the twin island federation of St Kitts and Nevis. He reiterated that the EU and the federation have been nurturing this relationship for several years.

While the two leaders discussed a number of important issues, some of the key areas included the discussion on the threat of Climate change, transition to renewable energy and the expansion of trade relations with Europe. Dr. Douglas has reaffirmed that St Kitts and Nevis is committed to open communication and

collaboration with the European Union as the federation continues its thrust towards becoming a Sustainable Island State.

Ambassador Ramsey on the other hand highlighted that global partnerships and cooperation are very important to the European Union especially when they exist within the Caribbean region. The Ambassador also visited the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis and the Governor General of the country for a courtesy call.
