Charles E. Mills Secondary School (CEMSS) and Sandy Point has been mourning the loss of a beloved teacher, mentor and sportsman Urban (Egbert) Freeman. The community is in a state of shock and grief after the loss of a beloved figure in the teaching community.
Freeman taught at the Charles E Mills Secondary School for several years nurturing and supporting the growth of several children. He was an educator of Information Technology but also taught some other subjects to the students.
In addition to teaching inside the classroom, he was also deeply committed to the welfare of the children under his charge at the Charles E Mills Secondary School. He was active in the sports sector in addition to being an educator and he coached the students in Table tennis.
The people of the community have shared that Freeman was an inspiration to countless children who credit their growth to the educator. In addition to his contributions to the education sector, Freeman also made a sizable impact within the sports sector. He served as the President of the St. Kitts Amateur Basketball Association (SKABA) and represented St. Paul’s in the national league.
The legacy of the educator and sporting figure extends beyond his years. This is clear from the outpour of love that has continued to come for him after his passing.
The administration, staff, students, alumni, and other members of the Charles E Mills Secondary School extended condolences to his wife, children, relatives, colleagues, church family. The St. Paul’s Basketball Club also came forward to express their grief on the loss of a beloved educator and mentor.
Furthermore, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas also extended his condolences on the loss of Urban (Egbert) Freeman. Minister Douglas recounted the several contributions that he has made to the Sandy Point Community.
He also praised Freeman for his service to the Sandy Point school which has now been renamed Charles E Mills Secondary School.
