PM Terrance Drew Prioritises CARICOM Leadership Amid Venezuela Crisis

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew along with other CARICOM Leaders has been engaging with discussions regarding the events which unfolded in Venezuela on Saturday, January 3, 2025. The regional leaders and the CARICOM Secretariat are also part of the deliberations as the CARICOM works on considering the affect and implications of the events on the region and the nations on the whole. 

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, who serves as the Chairman of the CARICOM, was constantly working with the CARICOM Colleagues throughout Saturday . The Prime Minister has acknowledged the gravity of the situation as the whole region faces the aftermath of the military action in Venezuela. 

The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump confirmed in the early hours of Saturday that the armed operation within Venezuela has resulted in the President Nicolás Maduro along with his wife, being flown out of Venezuela. The FAA had also issued a notice to the Airlines in America to cancel their flights within the Caribbean due to the region’s proximity to the zone of conflict. 

Notably, the armed action in Venezuela is expected to have significant impact on the region, as the CARICOM Secretariat in Guyana has been active since the first reports of the attack Dr Terrance Drew, as the incumbent chairperson of the CARICOM has assured the people that he is dedicated to his role. 

Dr Drew has also ensured the people of St Kitts and Nevis that he will continue to work in the best interest of the nation and its people. As the Prime Minister was engaged in his duties within the CARICOM, he cancelled his appearance at the Prime Minister’s Grand Gala scheduled for the evening of Saturday, January 3.

The decision of the Prime Minister to give priority to his duties within Caribbean and towards the region have been received with great applause and appreciation.
