Konris Maynard updates nation on progress of Water Supply project across island

Minister Konris Maynard has confirmed that the people of St Kitts and Nevis are closer to getting a 24 hour supply of safe potable water. According to the Minister of Public Utilities, the commissioning of the Desalination Plant will give 70% households in the country access to uninterrupted water supply.
The Minister made this announcement during the 2026 Budget Address on December 18. The Minister said that after the Desalination Plant becomes operational, the resulting boost in supply will significantly reduce the national supply deficit.
The officials have shared that the residents of the country will be able to get access to drought-resilient, climate-smart water security for generations to come. The Minister has confirmed that they have made significant investment into the development of the Desalination Plant.
According to Minister Konris Maynard, 70% households across St Kitts will be able to get 24 hour access to water. The remaining 30% of the households will be covered with the well systems, the work for which has also been ongoing for several months.
The officials have shared that the members of the community are looking forward to the official commissioning of the Desalination Plant. The Minister of Public Utilities has shared updates on the 70,000-gallon-per-day solar-powered desalination plant at the Canada Industrial Site.
The solar powered desalination plant was constructed and completed in partnership with the United Arab Emirates. Minister Maynard has shared that they are looking forward to another US$47 million TransWater Project through the Green Climate Fund.
According to the Minister of Public Utilities, the projects which have been completed and some of which are being done in the near future will further expand the Federation’s water infrastructure.
Talking about the other advancements which they have made in the procurement of water for the country, Minister Maynard said, a drone-based semi-airborne hydrogeological survey identified 17 new potential well sites. Nine of these sites have been prioritised for development.
The first well which is being constructed under this mandate will be constructed in Saddlers Village. The construction is expected to begin before year end.
