Basseterre, St.Kitts, December 13, 2024 (ZIZ News): Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew has issued a heartfelt appeal to road users across the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, urging them to exercise caution while on the roads.

This plea follows a tragic accident on Wednesday morning (Dec. 11) that claimed at least five lives. At the time of the Prime Minister’s plea, at least one person was reported  to have died. The death toll has since risen to five, according to police.

“As we enter the festive season, I want to take this opportunity to appeal to our people, particularly motorists,” the Prime Minister said. “While you enjoy yourselves—and you should—please ensure you drive with due care and attention. I urge you not to drink and drive or smoke substances and drive. Your life is precious.”

Dr. Drew also called on the nation to support the families affected by this tragedy and offered his condolences to those grieving.

“Let us come together as a community to support those who are hurting from this loss of life,” he said. “I urge everyone to enjoy Christmas and Carnival, but to do so safely, driving with care. My deepest condolences to all the families, friends, and those who are grieving.”
