The St Peter’s Main Road, which is being constructed with an investment of ECD 30 Million will be officially opened to the public on Wednesday. The construction of the road has been completed a few weeks previously and will be available for use by the public starting with this week.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis will be presiding over the opening ceremony as he is the parliamentary representative for the constituency of St Peter’s. As the representative of the people of St Peter’s community, Dr Terrance Drew has been advocating for the construction and rehabilitation of the road for several years.
He shared that even when he was not in office, he had been making efforts to get the government to bring their focus to the rehabilitation of this long neglected road. With the completion of the rehabilitation project, Dr Drew has delivered on one of his election mandates.
The Prime Minister has shared that the road has been highly awaited among the people of the community. This rehabilitation project, according to him, is an investment that is being made for the people of St Kitts and Nevis.
The opening ceremony will also be attended by Minister Konris Maynard, who holds the responsibility for the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and Public Utilities. As part of the rehabilitation, the government resurfaced the road from the round-a-bout by the RLB International Airport along the FT Williams Highway.
The road will thus connect the Shadwell roundabout to New Road and the road will end at Ogees. The Prime Minister noted that the road is extremely important part of national infrastructure and a crucial link connecting various communities.
In the last two years, the work on the road rehabilitation has been ongoing with different parts of the project completed in stages. Finally, the project is complete and people can use the full extent of the road, easing travel and movement.
