Guyana: Linden Highway Claims Four More Lives


CaribWorldNews, GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Mon. May 4, 2009: The families of four are in mourning after another fatal crash on the Linden –Soesdyke Highway left four dead Sunday.

Dead according to Guyana Chronicle reports are traffic police rank Trevor Bramble of Tuschen; Candace Simon 26; her sister Ashanti Odelle Gomes 24; and a family friend, Selena Mohamed 21.

Two others – driver Aubrey Renville, 27, and Bevon Hector 21, of Ann’s Grove East Coast Demerara, were seriously injured in the crash and were last night being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Chronicle reports indicate the six were returning to Georgetown in a car after attending the Linden Town Week activities in Region Ten when, they came upon a parked low-bed truck with a bulldozer mounted on it.

They reportedly swerved to avoid the truck but ran smack into another truck approaching in the opposite direction. The Linden Highway has claimed numerous lives over the years including those of the daughters of late President, Hugh Desmond Hoyte.
